Project Details
Roof Condition
Roof Type – orange terracotta tiles.
Age – 1970s estimated.
Size – 350m2
Issues – this roof had not been cleaned in a very long time. There was substantial moss and dirt on the tiles and ridge capping.
Approach
Process Used – using a no-chemical, high-pressure wash to clean tiles to remove mould, residue and moss.
Results
Outcome– Mould, residue and moss growth was removed with no real issues on the tiles. However, upon removing some moss in the capping, it revealed that some of the ridge capping needed to be re-pointed as the existing mortar had deteriorated and crumbled away – most likely due to the moss growth over time affecting the cement mortar.
Summary– The roof and ridge capping was cleaned and the damaged mortar was replaced, ensuring that the potential for leaks was reduced.
Time Taken – 2 days in total, including repairs.
